A turn involves two things. It involves turning
from one direction and turning in another direction: turning from
something and turning towards something.
The essence of the turn of a Christian is to turn
from what this world has to offer for comfort, and turn towards God.
Who do you turn to when life poisons your cup of tea? Who do you turn
to when sickness stands in your room? Who do you turn to when trouble
finds your unlisted telephone number? Who do you turn to when death
knocks on your door and sits at your table? Do you turn to Oprah? Do
you turn to Dr. Phil? Do you turn to your friends? Or do you turn to
the Lord?
The Songwriter wrote “Where Could I go, but to the
Lord?” In order to turn to the Lord, we must turn from the world, (l
Thessalonians 1:9) – (things that have more value in your life than
God): a car, a house, a person, money, anything that gets more attention
than God is your god! We must turn from darkness. We are being called
from darkness into His marvelous light.
Someone asked, “How do I get in the light and stay
in the light?” l John 1:7 says “If we walk in the light as he is in the
light than we have fellowship one with another.” You see, the only way
to stay in the light is to stay in the Church; the place where the light
is being spread. You must look in the house of the Lord, not the club,
not the bar, not the casino, not the dope house; the light is in the
house of the Lord. We pray, we sing, we give, we share, we commune, we
love and we praise Him.
Bring a friend to worship Sunday so they can get in
the light, the marvelous Light.
